Liposomal Sleep Supplement Concept: PeptiSleep in a Liquid Sachet

A liposomal sleep supplement concept: magnesium plus Nuritas's PeptiSleep in a tear-and-go liquid sachet, and what founders should settle before building it.

A liquid sachet built around Nuritas's brown rice peptide, and why the format might sell it as much as the formula does.

This is one of my favorite concepts we've put together. PeptiSleep is one reason. The format is the other. I think it's very approachable.

It's a liposomal sleep supplement: PeptiSleep paired with liposomal magnesium, in a single-serve liquid sachet pouch. Tear it, squeeze it, done.

We walked through it on Beyond the Blend with Jenelle Benson, director of business development for supplements in North America at Nuritas, and Marc Burkhalter, Nuritas's head of product formulation. Nuritas makes PeptiSleep.

In this article, I'll cover what the concept is, why the sachet format matters, who it's for, and what you'd need to decide before building it.

That's a short clip. It comes from the full Beyond the Blend episode with Nuritas, where we also covered the science and 3 other PeptiSleep concepts.

Key Takeaways

  • The concept is PeptiSleep in a liposomal liquid sachet, with magnesium as the pairing.
  • PeptiSleep is a melatonin-free brown rice peptide ingredient from Nuritas.
  • The peer-reviewed study I could link is a small 8-week pilot.
  • The sachet means no water, no prep, no measuring.
  • Keep the serving small. Marc's first PeptiSleep shot was too big.

What Is Liposomal PeptiSleep, and Does It Work?

PeptiSleep. It's a network of peptides found in brown rice, made as a hydrolysate (a protein that's been broken down into smaller pieces). The idea is different from melatonin. Instead of adding a hormone to knock you out, the peptides are meant to help lower cortisol release overnight. Jenelle calls it the witching hour: you wake up at 3 a.m. stressed, heart racing, running through everything you didn't do.

The published human data is early. Nuritas put out an 8-week, placebo-controlled pilot in 26 adults with self-reported sleep impairment, in the journal Sleep Medicine: X. Nuritas reports nominally significant differences versus placebo in the sleep initiation and sleep maintenance measures, and calls the results exploratory.

Translation: promising, but it's a small study. Write your label claims to match.

The magnesium. One of the first recipes Nuritas developed was a honey and chamomile blend with magnesium and PeptiSleep, which they showcased at SupplySide.

The liposomal part. There's a lot of good data behind liposomal science with certain ingredients. Beyond that, it's an experiential product. If you want the deeper science, we covered it in liposomal vs standard supplements.

Jenelle has been a fan of Nuritas peptides in a liposomal delivery format since 2022 and calls it a great match. PeptiSleep also has a pretty mild, neutral taste that isn't hard to flavor.

Why a Liposomal Sachet, and Why Now?

This format answers pill and powder fatigue. There's only so many supplements you can take through shakes and a handful of pills every day. Give people some relief from that, and a different experience.

Liposomals are having a resurgence right now. A liposomal sachet with PeptiSleep is a differentiated format for premium sleep. People want something new. They want the experience and the convenience that comes with a sachet like this.

And I don't see many, if any, products using PeptiSleep in a liposomal format yet. There's awareness around the ingredient. It's still early.

Women are also about 1.4 times more likely to report insomnia than men, according to a meta-analysis of 29 studies. That's a market point, not a label claim. Your label stays on support language, like "may help support sleep quality."

Most of the liposomal sachet brands already on shelves appeal to women. Women love the packaging aesthetic and the experience of it.

Women are usually the first to bring a health product into the household. When people ask me what kind of products we make, I tell them: you probably have no idea, but I bet your wife knows most of them.

Who Takes It, and When?

I asked why women go for this format. It comes down to being pressed for time.

A lot of people are on the go. Work, kids, sports, the gym. You keep it in your purse or your bag, tear it, and go. Picture taking it in the carpool line.

It also helps compliance. You don't have to make sure you have your capsules and water with you, or squeeze a bottle onto a spoon. At night, there's no tea to make. It's already dosed.

You also skip the glass of water before bed, and it would make a great trade show giveaway, since nobody wants to pay Las Vegas prices for bottled water.

What You Could Actually Build

Here's the concept.

  • Format: Single-serve liquid sachet pouch.
  • Actives: PeptiSleep plus liposomal magnesium.
  • Positioning: Premium, melatonin-free sleep support you can carry anywhere.
  • Customer: Busy adults on the go, with women as the likely first buyer.

Keep the serving small. Nuritas's first ready-to-drink PeptiSleep shot was 2.5 ounces, and the feedback was that it was too big a volume. They reworked it to about 20 mL. A concentrated serve is easier to take, and the mouthfeel lands well with people.

Nuritas is also working on a sachet like this one to showcase, possibly as a trade sample.

On our side, we have dedicated facilities for liquid supplement manufacturing and for powders. We've been doing a lot of liposomal development over the last few years. For more on the sachet format itself, see our guide to liquid sachets and liposomal packs.

Steuart Nutrition capacity: liquid manufacturing capacity for runs of 2,500 to 5,000 units and up.

My Take

I'd buy this.

All 3 of us on the episode travel numerous weeks a year. I sleep horribly in a hotel room, and I always have to take something. I'll take 4 or 5 different kinds of liposomal packs and stuff them in a side pouch of my backpack, because they're so easy to take on the go.

Trade shows and expos take a lot of energy. The little sleep you do get during those weeks has to count. I'd take this every time I'm on the road.

The catch: Nuritas is still working out its own version of this format.

My dad got me into this industry. He was a mad scientist, a natural health champion in the 90s and early 2000s, way before it was cool. He believed in 3 things: propolis, colostrum, and liposomes. We've supported brands championing propolis, then colostrum. Now we're building out our liposomal track.

There are so many ingredients out there. Is your body going to absorb it? And is it in a form you'll actually use every day? Solve those 2 and you really increase effectiveness.

Your Next Move

If a liposomal sleep supplement fits your lineup, the questions to settle first are dose, serving size, flavor, and claims.

When the time is right, book a discovery call. We'll talk through your formula, the format, costs, and samples, and give you a no-pressure roadmap from a team that's been there.
