NMN is Back: Here’s What You Could Do With It
From popular supplement to restricted by the FDA, then finally reinstated…what can founders do with NMN in 2026?
From popular supplement to restricted by the FDA, then finally reinstated…what can founders do with NMN in 2026?

NMN is one of the most researched longevity ingredients of the last decade. For a while, the FDA closed the door on it.
But as of late 2025, it's fully legal, back on shelves, and sitting in a category with no clear winner yet.
That's a rare combination.
Here's what brand leaders need to know.
NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide) is a naturally occurring precursor to NAD+, a coenzyme responsible for helping regulate cell metabolism. The presence of NAD+ supports mitochondrial function, enhances energy levels, supports DNA repair, and overall cell longevity.
In other words, if your cell's batteries are running low, NMN is the charger.
And here's the relevant detail for brand builders: by middle age, most people's NAD+ levels have dropped to roughly half of what they were at 20. The market for something that credibly addresses that is enormous — and still wide open.
The science is still emerging, but in animal models, supplementation shows promising effects on metabolic health, endurance, and markers associated with aging.
In humans, the evidence is emerging, but also encouraging.
Researcher Christopher Shade writes:
“NMN may be an effective nutraceutical anti-aging intervention. In numerous studies, supplementation with NMN increased NAD+ biosynthesis, suppressed age-related adipose tissue inflammation, enhanced insulin secretion, improved mitochondrial function, improved neuronal function in the brain, and more.”
Translation: NMN may help slow aging. Research suggests it gives your cells more energy, reduces inflammation, helps control blood sugar, and supports brain function.
Safety wasn’t the issue. NMN was sidelined because of a technical FDA rule governing US supplement regulation.
Under the FDA’s interpretation of the “drug preclusion clause”, an ingredient cannot be sold as a dietary supplement if it has already been authorized for investigation as a pharmaceutical drug.
So when Metro International Biotech (MIB) started clinical trials using NMN as a treatment for age-related conditions, the FDA took the position that NMN could no longer be marketed as a dietary supplement.
In other words, the pharmaceutical industry took an interest, and the FDA forbade its use in dietary supplements.
With the FDA issues closed, brands can actually begin leveraging this product in their SKU stack.
The longevity category is growing fast, the NMN window is open, and the shelf is still mostly empty of brands doing this well.
Here are four product directions that translate the science into something consumers will actually want to buy.
Marketing products built on complicated science can be tricky.
Rather than focusing on the science, the key is to focus on compelling brand stories, and the benefits consumers will feel because of your product.
Compared to other NAD+ support ingredients, NMN remains one of the more expensive raw materials in the healthy aging category.
A dose of NMN might cost more to incorporate into a supplement compared to alternatives like nicotinamide riboside (NR) or niacin.
However, the higher cost comes with an advantage.
Premium pricing.
In practical terms, founders who pair NMN supplements with premium packaging formats can target retail prices between $60 and $90 per dose, while standard NAD+ support capsules might compete in the $30 to $40 range.
